This edition probably printed from the parts plates: At the bottom of every 8th leaf is printed " The Novel Newspaper. Cf Sadleir First Edition; First Printing. Three volumes complete in slipcase. Volumes in Very Good condition; edge wear and scuffing. Slipcase in Poor condition, edge wear and tape covering edges. No date.

The Wandering Jew - Eugene Sue - Quarter bound dark green morrocan, embossed title on ridged spine, soiled end papers, and heavily foxed prelims, frontis portrait, 24 portraits to rear,pp. The Wandering Jew - Vol. Type: Book Volume 2 shows expected cover wear, with rolling at the top and bottom of spine. The rest of the cover shows minor spots of the same substance as Volume 1. The pages and illustrations are clean and crisp. The pages and illustrations are intact. The covers are blue-green and the three sides of the pages have a blue paintbrushlike speckling.

Type: Book Volume 3 is missing. Volume 4 is a blue green book with gold gilt lettering on the spine. Three sides of the pages have a blue paintbrushlike speckling. The cover has normal wear. There is rolling at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a slight sprinkling of the same substance as in Volume 1.

First English edition of this classic. I detatched but present. Type: Book This is volume one of a five volume set. Number three is missing. Each is a matching book with blue-green cover and gold gilt lettering on spine. The Three sides of the pages have a blue paintbrushlike speckling. Volume one has rolling at the top and bottom of the spine. There is also a tiny bit of the same substance near the lower corner. The cover has normal age wear. The pages and illustrations are clean, crisp. First Modern Library Giant Edition, stated.

Red cloth with black and gold titles. Boards clean and bright, slight bow to boards, light shelf wear only. Spine heel very gently bumped. Binding just starting at title page, else firm. Text block toned. Slight bump to page edges at lower corner - only affects last few pages with tiny closed tears at edges. Contents unmarked and clean.

A few tiny cuts at spine ends with some rubbing at corners. Spine mildly sunned. Nice copy. Scarce first Modern Library edition. Very Good Book condition. Half Leather. Half-leather with marbled boards and endpapers. Botn volumes in very nice condition, with only light rubbing to spines..

Complete set, six volumes in three nicely-illustrated green cloth bindings, top edges gilt, illustrated, including a frontis plate with the original protective tissue guard in each volume, no publishing date, this "Dagobert Edition is clean inside and out, an attractive bookplate is present on the inside of the front covers, mild rubbing at the corners, front hinge of volume one has a bit of play, all flaws are minor, would make a nice gift set.

Eugene Sue was a French novelist, considered to be one of a number of authors responsible for the popularisation of the serial novel, with this work and the series 'The Mysteries of Paris' published in this format. His works were strongly influenced by the upcoming notions of socialism, with this work 'The Wandering Jew' considered one of his 'anti-Catholic' works. Both works depict the life of the nobility in stark contrast to that of the underclasses of French society.

The work was also credited with helping to greatly increase circulation of the magazine in which it was published. A uniformly bound three volume set of this influential, and somewhat controversial work by noted French author Eugene Sue. Condition: In uniform half calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally generally smart, with slight rubbing to the extremities, joints and boards. Slight bumping to the extremities. Light area of damp staining to front board of volume two and three. Slight loss to the marbled paper to the rear board of volume two.

Hinges slightly strained, particular to the rear hinge of volume one, otherwise firm. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with marginal age toning and the odd spot. Light tidemarks to the extremities of the first fifteen leaves of volume one. Institutional library stamp to title page of all volumes. Contemporary ink signature to front blank of all volumes. Overall Condition: Very Good.
